My discovers her love of music
14. October 2019Five-year-old My has a new passion. She loves to sing. Together with her sister, who is twelve years older, the young Vietnamese girl rehearses the first bars of an Elvis Presley song. For their mother, Hanh, hearing the two duetting is like a miracle. My was born with severe hearing loss. She could not hear any sounds for the first years of her life until she was identified with her hearing loss.

Haiti: Gaining trust
18. July 2019Nadja Laible: I am a hearing acoustics expert and have been working in the Audiology department at Phonak Germany since 2015. Ever since I started this position, I have wanted to go on assignment as a volunteer for Hear the World. The opportunity finally arose in May 2018, when I had the chance to support the project #HearHaiti. I was thrilled!

Guatemala: our youngest volunteer
26. March 2019Hear the World invited Isaiah to join a team of three Sonova volunteers who visited the project in February 2019. The goal of the visit was to fit the donated hearing aids and conduct hearing screenings at different schools in Guatemala City and Antigua. Isaiah was able to accompany the team during the first two days.

Peru: Hearing test factory
18. March 2019Jennifer Appleton-Huber: 60 wax occlusions, 21 infections, two Piñata foam pieces and a live insect - some otoscopy findings during your typical week of hearing screening in Lima. In September 2018, I was fortunate to be allowed to be part of a small team of Sonova volunteers, who travelled to Lima Peru. Our mission was to screen at least 4000 children for hearing loss within five days.

Check your hearing

March 2019On March 3, for World Hearing Day 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) draws attention to the importance of early identification and intervention for hearing loss with the theme “Check your hearing!”. Many people live with unidentified hearing loss, often failing to realize that they are missing out on certain sounds and words. Checking one’s hearing would be the first step towards addressing the issue.

19. February 2019Full of hope, Ha and Hang are waiting for a special moment: on February 27th, 2019, their son Hung, who is almost three years old, will once again hear his parents’ voices clearly. That is the moment when the boy’s cochlear implant, which he received through the #HearVietnam program on January 21st in Hanoi, will be activated.

Gregor Meyle: Deeply impressed
03. September 2018German singer-songwriter Gregor Meyle has been a Hear the World ambassador since July 2018. During his visit to a project in South Africa in July, he met children with hearing loss at the Carel du Toit Centre and sang with them as part of a musical speech therapy session. This likeable full-blooded musician talks about his experiences and impressions that he had during his stay in South Africa.
